South African companies we'll miss after lockdown

CAPE TOWN -

It's no secret that the Covid-19 global pandemic has negatively effective local businesses, from the aunty selling koeksisters on a Sunday morning to the big companies with hundreds of employees.

And while the level 4 lockdown introduced a new set of rules which allowed various industries to re-open their doors, some companies will not be able to after closing its doors permanently or at least until 2021.

Here's a list of companies you won't see again after lockdown while others are hanging on a lifeline :

Associated Media Publishing -

AMP are the publishers of Cosmopolitan, House & Leisure, Good Housekeeping and Women on Wheels. The company was launched in 1982 and announced that they will be closing its doors permanently.

Baxter Theatre -

Performing arts centre the Baxter Theatre will be closed until early 2021 according to theatre CEO Lara Foot. The Baxter Theatre is not funded by the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, and receives a grant from the University of Cape Town.

South African Airways -

SAA announced that it has given notice to nearly 5 000 employees to begin retrenchment.

Edcon -

South Africa's biggest clothing retailer which owns Edgars and Jet applied for business rescue after losing R2 billion.

Mariner’s Wharf -

The decline in tourism has had a knock-on effect on South Africa’s first harbourfront emporium, Mariner’s Wharf who has taken the difficult decision to cease trading until the economy recovers.

Caxton & CTP Publishers -

Publishers of Country Life, Food & Home, Garden & Home and People magazines, Caxton & CTP Publishers & Printers Limited announced it had begun a process of withdrawing from magazine publishing.

Spur Corporation -

Both Panarottis Pizza and Spur Steak Ranches which falls under the same group won't be opened immediately after the lockdown due to the restricted trade.
