These people are most vulnerable to contracting Covid-19

DURBAN – As we move into a phased reopening of the economy from May 1 employees who are able to work from home should be allowed to do so, according to President Cyril Ramaphosa.

He also said those who are most vulnerable to contracting the Covid-19 virus should stay at home too. So what puts you at a higher risk of contracting the virus ?

If you identify with any of the following then you could be at a higher risk ;

• Are 65 years old or older

• Are HIV positive

• Suffer from asthma

• Have Tuberculosis (TB)

• Have chronic lung diseases

• Have serious heart conditions, e.g. congenital heart disease, arrhythmia, coronary artery disease, had a history of myocardial infarction (heart attacks) and other heart complications

• Have autoimmune deficiencies, e.g. lupus, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease

• Have diabetes either type 1 or type 2

• Sever obesity which refers to a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher

• Chronic kidney disease

• Have cancer or undergoing treatment for cancer

These conditions play a part in weakening a person’s immune system, prevent the immune system from functioning normally or attack specific organs in the body.
