Cape Town - Garden masters and novices can experience some of the country’s best landscaping at the Cape Town Flower Show in October.
The show is returning after an eight-year hiatus and will be held at the Castle of Good Hope.
“I wanted the show to take place in the city bowl with the mountain as a backdrop, as Table Mountain National Park sits in the smallest, though extremely diverse, floral kingdom in the world,” said show director Karey Evett.
The show’s gardens project manager, professional landscaper Paul Odendaal, said the venue fits this year’s theme well.
“We are back after many years of being absent to a venue that carries a great deal of history.
“Hence, I chose landscape designs based on a mixture of old and new, classic right through to contemporary.
“All designs are fresh - no copy and paste,” he said.
The planning team gave landscapers categories of sustainability, contemporary, technology, biodiversity, novelty, and good health, as guidelines.
Among the 20 gardens, there will be a historical and a modern vegetable garden, as well as one using permaculture (the practice of growing different plants together according to their water needs).
Another focuses on Table Mountain’s biodiversity, and one is designed after the national flag.
