The summer open garden season in Joburg has been a great success and over the next two weekends, gardens will be open from Westcliff through to Melville.

Since its establishment in 1996, the Gardens of the Golden City (GGC) has been the umbrella movement for over a dozen local garden clubs that organise the raising of charity funds through the opening of the city’s top gardens.

During this time, GGC has raised over R3 million for various charities from the entry fees paid by visitors to the open gardens (www.gardensofthegoldencity.co.za)

Last year, GGC raised R85 000 for two West Rand charities and this year the funds collected from open gardens will be donated to Meals on Wheels, Ububele and the Joburg Child Welfare charities.

All gardens are open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. Cost: R20 per person, free for children under 12. - Saturday Star
