You don't have to spend a fortune to nail this look.

London - With Baz Luhrmann’s eagerly awaited adaptation of The Great Gatsby set to hit the big screen this year, why not emulate the gloss and glamour of the Roaring Twenties in a vintage-style, opulent soiree with friends.

“Glitz is seeing a renaissance and it’s the perfect anecdote to gloomy winter nights,” says Philippa Prinsloo, senior designer for Home at John Lewis. “One of our most popular themes this season is called Theatre, which uses rich golds and coppers, with jewel-like highlights of blues and purples.

You don’t have to spend a fortune to nail this look because the High Street is packed with pretty plates, metallic servers and cheap chic glassware, so it doesn’t matter if anything gets broken.

“Add glitz to parties by scattering tables with gold and silver stars and sparkling gems, while sparklers and posh poppers will add a celebratory fizz and pop,” says Clare Harris of the partyware company Talking Tables.

Set the mood by hanging pretty fairylights and filling your house with clusters of mismatched candlesticks and even old jam jars with tealights. - Daily Mail
