Soweto is gearing up to host the Miss Soweto 2017 finals on Saturday 25 November 2017, sponsored by White Star Super Maize Meal.

The pageant will be held at the Soweto Theatre at 7pm and the Matriarch team is the driving force behind-the- scenes to make sure everything goes smoothly for this iconic pageant.

Apart from creating the perfect setting for the top 20 contestants to dazzle audiences for the finals, this experienced national agency has also been intimate with contestants to teach them choreography for the evening as well as coordinating all the pre-events, workshops and mentorship programmes that form part of the pageant’s build up.

“This amazing event is the perfect example of how brands can provide a platform for young women to empower themselves and their communities, particularly with the mentorship and guidance programmes that come with the title.

"Not only does this pageant aim to inspire young women to rise above their deprived background or family situation, but it also strives to equip them with a passion for community service and most importantly - to achieve their academic goals.

Having supported this prestigious event for eight years now, White Star Super Maize Meal are once again proud to be associated with the Miss Soweto 2017 pageant – as are we,” says Leanne Pechey, managing director of Matriarch.

Miss Soweto pageant was established in 1979 and was created to bring awareness to the women of Soweto.

Well-known celebrities who were winners of Miss Soweto in previous years include Basetsana Makgalemele-Kumalo, businesswoman and Top Billing presenter and producer, who was crowned Miss South Africa in 1994 and was a runner-up in Miss World 1995, and former SABC newsreader Augustine Masilela.

Nowadays, Miss Soweto plays a significant role in promoting positive change for women and girls who live in the area.

Miss Soweto 2016, Nthabiseng Priscilla Kgasi (22)  from Protea Glen, said “what makes the pageant and overall title significant is that it represents the

most influential township in the country and the opportunities afforded to the winner to create a positive impact on the Soweto community are phenomenal!

"As I look at the Miss Soweto 2017 top 20 list, the advice that I would like to give to the finalists is that you need to be true and real to yourselves because the world needs originality and women who are proud to be unique.

"They must also use every opportunity that comes with the title to make a real impact on the lives of the Soweto community, but most importantly to make it work for them beyond the pageant.”

This highly anticipated event will be broadcasted on Soweto TV (DSTV 251) on Saturday 2 December 2017. For more information, visit  MISS SOWETO 2017
