The spring/summer designs showcased on the catwalks of London, New York, Paris and Milan are starting to filter down. To make sure you know your mellow yellows from your must-have metallics, we have compiled an A-Z guide of what’s hot this coming year...

Asian

Think Far East when decking out this year’s wardrobe. From kimono-inspired dresses to silk wraps made for Bangkok nights.

Bombers

A bomber jacket is a wardrobe staple. We love them teamed with slim-cut leather trousers.

Cropped

Ladies, prepare to bare. Chanel showcased a beautiful array of cropped jackets and short shorts and Zara have been quick to follow suit, so you can get leggy for less.

Document clutch

Everyone on the front row at fashion week was armed with an iPad or mini laptop, so make sure you protect yours in style.

Enhanced minimalism

A brilliantly bonkers industry term for “less is more” when it comes to make-up. Think primer, primer, primer and clever contouring.

Flower power

Moschino reminded us why flower power was so hip in the swinging sixties, so 2013 is the perfect time for blooming.

Graphic

It’s all about the monochrome, whether it’s stripes, checkerboards or squares, all stylishly demonstrated by Karl Lagerfeld. Chessboard chic has never been so fashionable.

Hawaiian prints

It’s all about the palm trees and bright prints, hibiscus flowers this season.

Iridescent

Metallic and “oil slick” finishes splashed the catwalk. Everything is going futuristic, holographic and dazzling. Make like Burberry and embrace high sheen.

Jackets

Biker jackets aren’t going anywhere. They are the perfect way to toughen up any flirty, floral outfit. Add a distressed denim or leather jacket to give more edge to your outfit.

Khaki

Safari prints and neutral tones dominated the Paris catwalks so don your best khaki military uniforms complete with waist belt for a cool summer.

Luxe cuff

The latest accessory trend is the solid stylish metal cuff. If you’re feeling more adventurous, studded, embellished jewels pimp up the arm candy.

Materials

Furs, hairy, shaggy, beads, threads, lace ... texture makes a come-back on everything from pretty prom dresses to sky-high mini skirts.

Neon

Bright, loud neon colours were the order of the day at the most popular shows. Opt for hot pinks, grass greens, burnt orange and cobalt.

Orient

All aboard the Orient express for 2013. Prada, Emilio Pucci and John Galliano did it and so can you. Update any outfit with obi belts and vivid printed skirts.

Pencil skirts

Tailoring is key and the perfectly lined pencil skirt will add some serious class to any outfit. Ditch the mini skirt for the office and channel Oscar de la Renta in a tight, knee-length style.

Quadrant

We are all headed for a geek chic get-up – Equations, quadrants and bold patterns are a taster of what’s to come.

Red alert

Red is the new black. It’s time to swop that LBD for an LRD. Tone it down with a neutral pair of peep toes.

Sixties

The swinging sixties was the flower power-loving decade that underpinned the catwalks. From Louis Vuitton’s fun colours to Gucci’s Hitchcock- inspired sophistication, it’s time to take a step back in time.

Tailor made

Get suited and booted in style with tailored blazers, over-sized and cropped silhouettes and well-fitted shorts. It’s all about grace, class and sophistication.

Unisex

The boundaries are getting gradually more blurred. The suit will be making its mark on the fashion world.

Vivid colour

From pastels to their bolder counterparts, it’s all about saturation and really, anything goes.

White

Roberto Cavalli, Jil Sander and Missoni had a white-out this season. Crisp whites can be teamed with the boldest of colours.

X-ray fabrics

Fabrics go sheer, sultry and sexy, thanks Giambattista Valli.

Yellow

It was THE colour on all the catwalks and one that Hollywood stars have firmly established as a favourite.

Zoology

Animal prints are back! Whether it’s Issa’s tiger prints or Erdem’s snakeskin, take your wardrobe on a wild safari.– Daily Mail
