Proudly South African luxury fashion label, Kat van Duinen, recently opened a new flagship boutique in the Mother City. The new boutique is situated in Cape Town’s trendy Silo District at the V&A Waterfront, which is set to become a hive of activity for travellers and locals. The flagship store is in excellent company, sitting alongside the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, The Silo Hotel, Guild design gallery, The Yard, and Radisson Red Hotel.
Founded in 2010, Kat van Duinen has established itself as a leading luxury label, known for its signature exotic leather pieces, as well as ready-to-wear collections underpinned by a minimalistic aesthetic, and accented by vibrant African influences.
To showcase the label’s beautiful, handcrafted pieces, fashion designer and founder Kat van Duinen worked in partnership with leading local architect, Ivan McCarthy Peens to craft the store’s interior. The vision was to create a space that incorporated the core themes behind the brand - being modern, classic, minimalist and unisex all at once - whilst blurring the line between boutique and gallery.
The result is a stunning blend of concrete and velvet with a fluidity that allows the space to continually change depending upon the collections being shown. By avoiding permanent fixtures, the boutique can provide the space for anything from a small preview for discerning clients or the launch of a major new collection.
New for this spring is the 2017/2018 evening wear collection that embraces the splendour of a Venetian palace of old, with slender floor-length gowns, tiered maxi skirts and flirty ruffled shift dresses. The pieces in this collection
feature in striking jewel tones of honeyed gold, ruby red, emerald green and deep sapphire blue.
