Designer and member of the CFDA board Tommy Hilfiger, stated that he had suggested not only the award be added to the CFDA, but also that Kardashian-West be the first recipient of the award back in May. "Kim is the most important and powerful influencer in the world," the designer said in a statement. "Her reach extends far beyond her own brands. Every time she wears, posts, or talks about a fashion brand, there is an immediate and significant increase in both awareness and sales".

Upon receiving the award,

Kardashian-West joked about how shocked she was to learn that she would be receiving the awards, considering how she is is known for posting more naked pictures on social media than her fashionable posts, but that she was extremely grateful to be recognised and to be seen as a positive influencer.
