Skip laundry detergent recently collaborated with 3 local designers for a monochrome collection as they hosted their very first exclusive monochrome pop-up store.

Lukhanyo Mdingi, Imprint ZA and Prime Obsession all designed monochrome collections which are displayed at the Skip pop-up store in Sandton City.

Lukhanyo Mdingi’s range of refined, modern and cohesive garments is timeless and offers maximum comfortability.

“It’s a very considered collection and I really had to adhere to the natural authenticity of my label. and consider what Skip wanted to get from the collaboration. Keeping it clean and timeless was essential - I think because it’s so concise, the pieces have a consistent relation to one another,” said Mdingi.

Although he struggled a bit to stick to the theme because of his love for colourful garments, Imprint ZA’s authentic, personal and elevated monochrome collection was inspired by the ‘60’s.

“My inspiration comes from everywhere and everything. I draw inspiration back to the 60’s, my roots and where I come from. For example, looking at the silhouette of my designs – I take inspiration from the original woman, my mom.

"But I also just look around, you’ll see, it’s very visually exciting. You can see the identity of IMPRINT ZA in so many things, local and foreign. It’s supposed to be ladieswear but there’s no concept of ladieswear in my collection, a lot of the pieces are gender-bending,” said Mzukisi Mbane, founder of Imprint ZA.

Familiar with the monochromic tone, Prime Obsession kept it simple, structured and clean. The duo's pieces speak to their personal style. Silhouettes range from fluid to structured and are very simple yet effective.

The pop-up shop is available in Johannesburg, Sandton City between July 10-24 and Canal Walk, Cape Town August  7-21.
