While most South Africans are still bowled over by the State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered by our new president, Cyril Ramaphosa, we take a look at some of the best dressed couples to grace the red carpet ahead of the event.

This year’s SONA is a remarkable one as the newly appointed president of South Africa is addressing the nation for the very first time.

Walking a 250m red carpet, Members of Parliament returned to the House in style on Friday evening.

Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula and his wife Nozuko Mbalula were one of the best dressed couples, him rocking up in a subtsu checkered grey suit and her in a fitted green drappe gown.

The “Gigabytes”, Malusi Gigaba and his wife Norma, lived up to their high fashion standards with the finance minister in a tailored navy suit and Norma looking like a goddess in a red off-the-shoulder gown with embroidered bustier.

Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane and his wife Natalie couldn't be left off the list. Natalie upped the style quotient in a stunning floral dress with lace detail. Maimane also complemented his wife in a 3-piece tailored grey suit.

A perennial SONA style icon, Mandla Mandela did not disappoint. He and his wife Nosekeni Rabia Mandela walked the red carpet in mustard and black outfits with the confidence of being the night's best-dressed couple.

Bheki Cele’s wife Thembeka Cele also bowled us over in a ravishing off-the-shoulder gown with embroidery around the waist and bust. Bheki looked dapper in his suit and fedora.
