The annual luxury lifestyle and polo affair, the Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo (#VCMastersPolo), will once again be held at the Val de Vie Estate in Paarl.
Taking place next Saturday, march 3, the event brings together some of Africa’s most influential socialites, business people, entertainers and polo enthusiasts.
Guests will spend the day enjoying a fast-paced game of polo, a live fashion show, a luxury car showcase, and being spoilt at several beauty and hair pamper lounges. All the while they will be sipping one of the world’s best-selling champagne, Veuve Clicquot.
Now in it’s 8th year, the event is a highlight on the city’s social calendar. With the theme “Cape Town Summer”, come dressed in cool and comfortable fabrics such as cotton, linen and lace.
Also think bright summer hues of yellow, red, blue and white or cream, paired with comfortable shoes or sandals.
Those unable to attend can experience the action from afar on E! Entertainment, the event’s official broadcast partner, which will be there to capture the action.
Another event highlight is that South African actress, campaign girl and model Nomzamo Mbatha will host the event again, following her debut last year.
I spoke to her about the experience and life in general.
Congratulations on being the host for the Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo for the second consecutive year. How does it feel? I always pride myself on ensuring that any task I take on leaves my client satisfied and fulfilled in my contribution towards their event. Receiving this repeat call for the Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo validates that and calls for me to do better than the previous year. It’s exciting!
With the#VCMastersPolo theme “Cape Town Summer”, how will you go about putting together your outfit for the day? You mean my three outfits? LOL! I am all about easy-flowing fabrics in honour of the season and the theme and it’s going to be a sunny and hot day at Val de Vie.
You wear several hats as actress, presenter/MC and campaign girl, how do you describe what you do for a living? I am an actress who loves nothing more than to put up a great show - letting go of my inhibitions - to entertain. It’s all about making people feel good and entertained, while educating in some way.
What do you think makes a good host or presenter? It’s understanding that as host, you play a low-key role of cheerleader by keeping the event moving swiftly. But the best attribute is being able to make allies with the audience, by never threatening to upstage the occasion.
What would you say is the biggest misconception about you? That I have zero time to rest or sleep. Even in the middle of the most hectic day, I always steal moments to myself - I am a power napper of note. Call me the napster!
You have a busy life. How do you start your day with that positivity and awareness? It’s all in finding “me time” in the midst of my crazy schedule. I most look forward to the early hours of the morning and those last minutes in bed before I crash. They help keep my mind balanced and spirit centred. And they allow me quiet and focus so that my day is directed and measured.
What does being a strong woman mean to you? Being passionately resilient about your dreams and beliefs - even if it means you’re the lonesome voice. Others will eventually join you.
