Women ruled the stage and rocked the red carpet at this year's American Music Awards in Los Angeles last night.

The red carpet was a wash of black with many ladies opting to go back to black proving that the LBD is far from dead.

Here are a few celebs who slayed in black:

Lady Gaga, who beat Rihanna to win favourite female pop/rock artist, wore a black bodycon Alaïa dress in honour of fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa who passed away on Saturday.

In true Gaga style she wore the mini dress with a pair of her signature high platform heels and 80's inspired big, curly hair.

Pop princess, Selena Gomez, debuted her sexy new blonde hair complete with a rock chic look wearing a leather biker jacket and mini skirt. Love this new edgy look she's going for these days.

Actress-turned-singer Hailee Steinfeld showed off her toned abs in a black leather bralet and blazer.

Even Motown superstar Diana Ross who received this year's lifetime achievement award made a grand entrance when she arrived with her entire family wearing a dramatic black fascinator and matching dress. Showing why she's one of the original divas.

Such an honor to have Danica Roem who will be the first out and seated transgender state legislator in U.S. history by my side tonight at the AMAs. Danica put up with a lot of hate and bullshit by people who said she couldn’t win but she did. Her story is so inspiring and I was so proud to have her next to me before the performance for #sorrynotsorry which is an unapologetic anthem to all haters out there. Danica, you are an inspiration to so many and I can’t wait see all the amazing things you do! 🙌🏻❤️🏳️‍🌈
