The Soweto Youth Festival, which kicked off on Friday, offers a blend of fashion, food, music, workshops and gaming, in commemoration of June 16.

Organised by childhood friends, STYLAGANG, the event was birthed as a means by which to promote creative expression and youth development.

This year, their star-studded lineup features the likes of Emtee, Okmalumkoolkat, Luna Florentino, DJ Vigilante, Sliqe, Gemini Major, Tshego, Tweezy, Manu WorldStar and D.EE XCLSV.

IOL Lifestyle attended the Soweto Youth Festival in Protea South, where local creatives came out in numbers to  join the festivities and see our favourite young designers showcase their latest collection.

Some of the local designers in attendance include Mongezi Stuurman of Mpora designs, who incorporates media with fashion, and Erophon House, a Protea North brand, who showcased their garments of fashion infused with music.

While all the designers are super talented, the youngest, Boipelo Mogale, from Rockville, really impressed. At only 17 years old, Mogale already has his own fashion brand, Healer.

Fashion blogger and business woman, Maletsatsi Sello also showcased her headwraps from her label By Maletsatsi.
