London - Her hair has inspired countless imitations over the years – from long wavy locks to the famous ‘Rachel’ cut.

But it seems Jennifer Aniston’s crowning glory has lost favour with fans, after she was outshone in a poll of the best onscreen hairstyles.

Voters chose Anne Hathaway’s cropped look as the most influential.

Miss Hathaway, 30, first sported the elfin cut in the 2011 adaptation of David Nicholls’s hit novel One Day. During her Oscar-winning turn in Les Miserables as Fantine, a starving mother forced to turn to prostitution, the actress memorably had her long hair cut off during filming.

She said she was “inconsolable” after the chop but the look was greatly admired by fashion commentators on the red carpet during this year’s awards season.

The poll of 1 000 people by the Hairdressing Council of Great Britain and Universal Studios placed Miss Aniston’s long curly style in Along Came Polly in second place and Audrey Hepburn’s ‘up do’ from 1963 film Charade in third.

Veronica Lake’s long, wavy style in The Blue Dahlia was fourth.

Molly Ringwald’s red-headed bob in John Hughes’s classic comedy The Breakfast Club was voted in fifth place.

The poll also found that one in ten women has changed their hairstyle after being inspired by a film character.

Celebrity hairdresser Charles Worthington said: “Film can inspire people to do many things and in particular change the way they look.

“The versatility of Jennifer Aniston’s cut ensures it appeals to so many people while there really is nothing like an up do for that Hollywood glamour as sported by Hepburn.” - Daily Mail
