The September Vogue issue is the most anticipated issue of the year. When it was announced that the queen of R&B, Beyonce Knowles, was going to be the cover of the September issue the Beyhive (her loyal followers) buzzed with excitement.

But when everybody learnt that SHE had not only insisted on full creative control and hired a 23-year-old photographer, Tyler Mitchell to shoot the cover, history was in the making.

Tyler Mitchell was to become the first African American to photograph a Vogue cover in its 125-year history.

Yesterday we finally got to see the creation we had all been waiting for. When Queen B took to Instagram to post the cover and inside photographs, social media went crazy.

The barely there makeup, elaborate flower headpieces and exquisite garments, the cover and inside images blew her followers away.

Here are a few of the responses:

1. Beyonce is the consummate icon. These photos, her interview, her legacy. Her embrace of body positivity. ***FLAWLESS.

2. These were shot by Tyler Mitchell, a 23-year old who made history as the first Black photographer of a Vogue covershoot. It shouldn't have taken this long. pic.twitter.com/5iKZ6Ph5Uw
