Creatives and trailblazers were asked to participate in the Old Khaki’s The Perfect Pair series and style their looks using separates from the brand’s latest collection, which includes jeans, dungarees, denim shirts and jackets.
Two of the couples tell us what makes them the perfect pair, Niquita Bento a photographer, and Lee Bunding an audit manager.
Niquita: Hi, I’m Niquita Bento and I’m a photographer.
Lee: Hi, I am Lee Bunding and I’m a chartered accountant. We’ve been together for seven-and-a-half years now.
How did you guys first meet?
Niquita: We met through mutual friends. We were always friends first.
Lee: We were never really interested in each other that way but then we went out in Stellenbosch one night.
Niquita: Yup, and then we drank too much.
Lee: We’ve been together since then.
When you guys first met, what was the first thing that you noticed about each other?
Niquita: He had good hair, always.
Lee: She has a bubbly laugh. It lights up the room.
Niquita: Ah, that’s so cute! Now I feel like my answer was so shallow!
What makes you the perfect pair?
Niquita: I think our personalities are pretty complementary.
Lee: Yup, she’s a bit more out there than I am.
Niquita: And what I like, he has.
Lee: I also think the fact that our careers are so different
Niquita: You’re always around the same people, so sometimes it’s nice to come home to someone completely different who has a completely different point of view.
Lee: It helps to keep a good balance.
What quality in your partner do you value/appreciate most?
Niquita: He’s the most genuine, sincere and caring person I know. It’s not normal. He probably has the best heart I have ever seen and he is just super honest in everything that he does. I think that is such a nice characteristic to have.
Lee: Well, she took part of my answer away. I think, for me, it’s her big heart. She is a very big softy. She’s also very understanding and compromises, which I think is quite important in our relationship specifically.
What do you love most about your favourite pair of denims?
Lee: I like a very good straight cut, well-fitted. In a lot of the denims, my bum is too big. It’s difficult to find the perfect size but that’s what I look for in a fit.
Niquita: I gravitate toward high-waisted denims. It’s generally more comfortable and more flattering. I also do prefer a looser pair of denims. I am also more into a whiter wash denim now because of their versatility.

The second couple we chatted to was Tshepang Twiggy Mollison, a personal style blogger and
Bash Jameson an A&R/Artist
Manager.
Tell us a bit about yourself? Your name, occupation, how long you’ve been dating.
Bash: My name is Bash Jameson and I am an artists’ manager.
Twiggy: My name is Twiggy and I am a lifestyle and fashion blogger, and we’ve been dating for six months now.
How did you guys first meet?
Twiggy: It was in Cape Town during December. We were friends before but then it was like a drunken night out and I just made the first move.
Bash: Yeah, she snatched
me.
When you guys first met, what was the first thing that you noticed about each other?
Bash: Her hair, I think.
Twiggy: Yeah, I tried to go back to black and he said no.
Bash: Yeah, she did go back to black for about a month but it didn’t quite work out. I almost left her! Jokes!
What makes you guys the perfect pair?
Twiggy: The fact that we balance each other out. I’m the fireball.
Bash: And I am more conservative, so I think it just works out.
What quality in your partner do you value/appreciate the most?
Bash: I am very comfortable with her, so I can be myself around her. I think that is the most important thing for me.
Twiggy: I like the fact that he comes across as a very serious and intimidating kind of guy, so girl’s aren’t too quick to be too nice to him. Love that!
What do you love most about your favourite pair of denims?
Bash: I love that I can wear them casually. I am not a suite type of person. I like the way that you can wear them formally and casually. That’s what I love most. I am definitely a more laid-back denim kind of guy.
Twiggy: t’s skinny or nothing for the both of us. We love our jeans very skinny.
For me, it’s also the versatility of denims. You can wear them casually and formally. And I love my jeans blue. Nice skinny blue jeans.
What is on your denims check-list?
Twiggy: They have to be comfortable. As much as they look nice, they have to be comfortable. If you put on your pair of jeans and it’s comfortable, then you see how good they look and if they will go with everything else in your wardrobe.
What movie, song or book title best describes your relationship?
Twiggy: I think the movie would be Notting Hill because in my head I am this big superstar and obviously he would fall for me.
Bash: But it was the other way round. She was chasing me. So basically I am the super star.
