Seven South African designers will get the opportunity to show off their latest collections as part of the annual campaign by Wear SA. The designers will showcase their ‘’Local is Lekker” designs at several shopping malls in and around Cape Town where fashion shows will be staged.

Designers who will be showing include Blue Collar White Collar, Magents, Democracy of Denim and Wear SA. Joining the line-up this year are two new labels – NVme Bikini and Nineteen94.

Spokesperson for Wear SA, Wayne van der Rheede summed up the forthcoming events: “These shows are designed to take fashion to the people and to demonstrate that clothing designed and made in South Africa, is stylish and of excellent quality. ‘Affordable’ goes beyond the price point the garments are retailed at, as supporting homegrown manufactured goods has the benefit of stimulating the country’s economy. In 2017, there is no better time to become a #LocalLabelLover.”

An exciting addition to this year’s shows is the search for two Wear SA Local Label Lovers.

One guy and one girl will now have the opportunity to be part of the final fashion show taking place at Somerset Mall on Saturday 20th May. Each person will receive a mini makeover which includes hair and makeup and the SA designer garments they will be strutting on the catwalk on the day.

Over the next two weeks IOL Lifestyle and Wear SA will be scouting for the local label lovers. Aspiring models and keen fashionistas will be required to enter online and attend the shows taking place at Kenilworth Centre and Canal Walk where the finalists will be chosen.

The first show will be at Kenilworth Centre on Saturday, April 29 2017 at 14h00 where the first round of finalists will be announced. All competing contestants will have to be present at the shows.
