The students were challenged to create new designs from recycled denim. “You bin it to win it, don’t throw anything away, whether you think it’s not good enough, we will re imagine it and reinterpret to making it into something spectacular”, says Shana Rosenthal, CEO of LISOF.

“I honestly don’t know what to say, I’m so happy. I’ve never actually won anything hence I’m so excited and very grateful because it’s not just me but a lot of other designers who I take inspiration from, a lot of Japanese designers;

“Being able to present this and win is absolutely amazing because I would love to be a men’s wear designer and for people to recognise my work and be happy about it, makes me so grateful”, says Makombe.

Andrea Flores’ the designer of women’s denim dungarees was also chosen as one of the best, however, Flores was not present at the show.

Andrea Flores’ women's wear will also be available at Edgars.

LISOF was started 24 years ago by Rosenthal with the aim to teach and give back. “It was just mainly about giving back to say: I know something and I know how to impact knowledge and I think that for me has been great because I love teaching...I love learning” says  Rosenthal.
