What has been the highlight of your year so far? It has been a great year overall, but my highlight has to be having diarrhoea in India this year. It was the best diet in the world. I lost about 8kg... but, of course, it's all back now.

Favourite Durban restaurant, mall and local leisure activity?

Spiga's is always tops. And I love Gateway. Chilling in Durbs is awesome no matter what I do.

The movie you most enjoyed in the last 12 months? And your favourite film of all time?

This year: Michael Jackson's This Is It really blew me away. I am a big Jacko fan and this film showed what a professional he was. All-time favourite film? Life is Beautiful - superb story with super performances.

The album currently in your CD player - and why?

I am not embarrassed to say it's Miley Cyrus's Party in USA. It's a bubblegum tune, but just so catchy. Most cherished album? Tricky one, but Snoop Dog's Doggystyle is legendary.

Favourite kind of meal? And least favourite?

At the moment I have been craving a proper Durban mutton bunny. And least favourite? Herbs... but I'm actually not that fussy.

How do you keep fit?

I hope that I am running through the minds of many a woman.

The three best things that make South Africa great?

Our mix of people, the pantsula and the loopholes in our law.

The word or phrase you most overuse?

"I'm sorry" . . . particularly in conversations with my wife.

One thing about yourself that you'd love to change (and why)?

Just my six-pack. Oh, the idea that I could ever have one.

How and where did you celebrate your last birthday?

I spent the day in Durbs with family and spent the evening flying back to Josie. My birthday is October 25.

Dream holiday?

The Seychelles is waiting for me - coconuts, pineapples, the lot. My wife Nerissa is my fantasy date.

If you could be an animal what would it be (and why)?

A chimp. Wait, I think that is my evolutionary chain.

Personalities you most admire - and why?

Graeme Smith at the moment. He's got balls of steel.

Six things you truly love? And six things you detest?

I love my wife, family, dog, food, fun and performing and cricket. I hate racists, the SA cricket team losing, crime, Manchester United supporters, new cartoon and taxi drivers.

The funniest thing that ever happened to you?

My diarrhoea in India and having to go in India-style floor toilets, where you have to squat. And I didn't have thighs of steel.

Favourite actors, actress, author, singer, band and television show?

Joost van der Westhuizen and Tiger Woods, Megan Fox (not for her acting skills), Dario Fo, Michael Jackson, Boyz II Men and Heroes.

Three things you have to do before you die?

Tour the world, learn how to cook edible food and invent something.

What are you reading at the moment?

Ahmed Kathrada's autobiography.

Your three favourite cities?

Durban (it'll always be home) Josie (my new home) and Cape Town (it's spectacular).

Tell us some things about yourself that most people don't know.

I'm actually shy, addicted to sport (especially cricket) and I fantasise about having muscles. Also, my hairline has receded by half a centimetre (my own global recession) and I love music.
