Ellen DeGeneres finally got to share her adventure in Rwanda on the Ellen DeGeneres Show this week.

The talk show host and her wife Portia de Rossi visited in May to build a campus for mountain gorillas in honour of Dian Fossey.

Fossey was an American primatologist and conservationist who was pivotal in the study of mountain gorilla groups from 1966 until her death in 1985

Earlier this year De Rossi gave DeGeneres her own namesake gorilla conservation centre for her 60th birthday.

De Rossi announced the gift during an episode of her show. Her donation to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund will create a permanent home in Rwanda for the organisation that has been protecting endangered mountain gorillas for 50 years.

“It has been amazing. It has been a dream come true to finally get to do this. My whole life I dreamed of doing this and I did it…” she said in the video.

Known for her carefree demeanour, Ellen broke down when she visited the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International. Most of her trip was spent tracking gorillas- and the couple were lucky to be up close to a gorilla family at the Volcanoes National Park.
