Anyone who knows me knows that I cannot resist a safari, and with summer fast approaching there is no better time than now to go on a game drive.

While it can get hot- especially with summer months being peak holiday season- travellers can enjoy a game drive without worry.

Here are some tips:

Wear comfortable clothes:

Many people make the mistake of wearing way too much clothing and as a result, have a rather unpleasant game drive. Try to wear lightweight clothing, and if sensitive to the sun longer length pants and shirts. The last thing you want is to be sunburned.

Hydrate

Hydrate as much as you can as the hot weather can cause many to get dehydrated. Make sure you get at least 2 litres of water in your system and fuel up before, during and after a game drive.

Wear sun cream or sun sprays

Use sunscreens and lotions to avoid looking like a tomato. Apply some before, during and after your game drive or whenever you expose yourself to the sun. Stock up on a sunscreen with an SPF of over 50.

Carry a hat and a light jacket

Game drives can get cold on early morning and night game drives. Bring along a hat and light jacket along with you, just in case the weather changes.

Grab a cocktail

Depending on the game drive package you choose, many of them offer drinks at snacks at a scenic spot. Whether it is your morning coffee at sunrise or a cocktail at sunset- it is one of the perks of going on a game drive.
