Durban - The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has dismissed a voice note circulating on social media platforms about the removal of the provincial speaker of legislature Nontembeko Boyce as misleading.

This comes after Sihle Zikalala resigned as the premier of the province after he was defeated at the 9th provincial elective conference which saw him concede the provincial chairperson seat to Siboniso Duma.

The ANC in KZN said on Saturday that the voice note alleged that there is a plan to remove the speaker of the legislature but was not true.

The party said the ANC has full confidence in Boyce and there is no reason to remove her.

“The ANC wishes to assure the people of KwaZulu-Natal that our Speaker, Cde Nontembeko Boyce, is doing a fairly good job in leading the legislature,” it said.

The ANC assured the province that Boyce would finish her term as the speaker of the legislature.

“This voice note is aimed at causing panic among citizens,” it said.

IOL reported earlier that the ANC in KZN welcomed Zikalala's resignation as the premier of the province.

Zikalala also failed to be elected into the ANC’s provincial executive committee (PEC).

The ANC in KZN said Zikalala offered his resignation during an ANC PEC meeting on Thursday.
