Plans are afoot to bring oncologists from Cuba and India to take up vacant posts in KwaZulu-Natal.
This was announced by Health MEC Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo at the annual Provincial Consultative Health Forum this week.
He said the department was working with the national department to bring these specialists in as part of the plan to resolve the oncology crisis.

This move was among the plans also presented to the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) which found the department guilty of violating the rights of cancer patients in the province to have access to health care.
Patients waited months for potentially lifesaving treatment due to broken machines and the exodus of oncologists.
There were currently no oncologists at Addington Hospital and none permanent at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital (IALCH), said Dhlomo.
The three part-time private oncologists at (IALCH) are supported by the four permanent oncologists at Greys Hospital.
