DURBAN ‒ Capitec said its banking app is back online after the bank’s clients took to social media to complain about not being able to login to access their funds and other services.

Speaking to The Mercury today, Capitec said its app experienced connectivity issues earlier this morning, but is now back online.

“We apologise to our clients for the inconvenience caused,” said the bank.

It said cards, ATMs, *120*3279# and branches were unaffected.

Capitec Bank clients who could not login to the banking app took to social media to query if other clients were also facing issues with using the app.

@MeshackBevhula said: “Today I feel like Capitec made and agreement with the companies I owe money to...coz I mean I can’t reverse debit orders (sic).”

@Mkho_Bandla said: “One reason many of us will never use ⁦@CapitecBankSA⁩ as our main bank is exactly because of their poor app. Every month end it does this. It even lies now and say my PIN is incorrect. Sies!”

@aLfriendo thanked Capitec for sending her an sms notification that the banking app was experiencing issues but said she was no longer a customer.

“Hi @CapitecBankSA This is great, but I’m not a customer, closed my account at least 6 months ago. Please delete my details.”
