Condolences and tributes pour in for Isipingo ’crime fighter’ and community activist

The CPF praised Premchund for his work in the community and for going above the call of duty. Premchund was acknowledged for his work in the development of soccer in Isipingo.

DURBAN - Condolence messages and tributes have poured in for Naresh Premchund, Isipingo Community Policing Forum (CPF) deputy chairperson who died on Sunday in hospital after a short illness.

The CPF praised Premchund, 55, for his work in the community and for going above the call of duty. He was also remembered for his work in the development of soccer in Isipingo.

Aidan David, Isipingo CPF chairperson, said that Premchund was a gentleman in the community.

“It was a pleasure to work with Naresh, he was always so willing to help his community. He brought such calmness to the CPF and was so efficient. During the violence and looting in July he was there to do patrols and assist wherever he could, whether it was with food or transportation,” he said.

David added that Premchund put the community first.

“The loss of Naresh creates a void in our community and we will sorely miss his presence. Naresh was a hard working person and we know that he spent so much time helping the community and was sometimes away from his family, but we are grateful for Naresh’s family sharing him with us,” he said.

Gan Reddy , a soccer referee, said that Premchund played a major role in contributing to soccer in Durban.

“Naresh started playing soccer in the eighties for Orient FC. He also was a referee and played football for the over 35 team. He was passionate about football,” he said.

Ronnie Vengan, from the Isipingo Junior Soccer Academy, said that it was with deep sadness that he learn of the death of Premchund.

“The sporting fraternity and community conveys its sincere condolences and deepest sympathies to the bereaved family. May the soul of this legend rest in peace,” he said.

Donald Naidoo, a close friend of Premchund, said: “Naresh was always willing to assist whether it was to provide shelter or food, he always went above the call of duty.”

Mark Gounder, a community activist also posted a condolence message.

“Go well brother in the hands of God .You will be missed by all that you so graciously served,” he said.

PT Alarms Fire & Security said that they salute Isipingo Community stalwart Naresh Premchund who passed away on Sunday.

“Mr Premchund was a respected resident of Isipingo who strived to uplift the community and enrich the lives of the youth. He was an avid crime fighter and his dedication and efforts are acknowledged and admired. We, at PT Alarms, offer our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, and we pray for strength and comfort during this time. May Naresh's soul rest in peace.”
