Durban - The lone gunman who entered courtroom on Monday and fatally wounded two people is believed to be a policeman.

It is believed the husband/shooter is a police officer who entered the court with his firearm. According to people at the scene, he allegedly produced a card to security that allowed him to enter with his firearm #Durbancourtshooting @TheMercurySA

Reports are circulating that the police officer entered Regional Court O and shot a woman believed to be his ex-wife and her brother.

Legal sources at the scene reveal that the shooting was related to a domestic dispute between a couple in divorce court. The man allegedly shot the woman and her boyfriend before turning the gun on himself.

According to Crisis Medical spokesperson, Kyle van Reenen, shortly after midday on Monday, they were alerted to a shooting at the court.

"Reports from the scene indicate that a male, approximately 30-years-old allegedly produced a firearm in the courthouse of the ‘O’ Court, shooting a male and female, before turning the gun on himself. The male and female victims were found to have suffered fatal gunshot wounds and were declared deceased on arrival, whilst the man remains in a critical condition," van Reenen said.

Everyone was asked to leave the 8th floor for safety reasons after a man claiming to be the boyfriend of the deceased woman broke a glass window. #Durbancourtshooting #DurbanMagistratesCourtShooting @TheMercurySA
