DURBAN - A joint operation between Marshall Security, Tracker SA and the SAPS yielded positive results with the arrest of a suspected car thief and the recovery of two stolen vehicles within hours of each other yesterday.

Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell said yesterday afternoon that about 2.30pm, members of Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team were activated to assist Tracker SA to locate a stolen Toyota Fortuner that had been taken from the Bellair area earlier in the morning.

Powell said the security company’s team members immediately responded and zoned in on the possible whereabouts of the stolen vehicle.

“A few minutes later our team members spotted the stationary Fortuner with a single occupant, in a parking lot on Kearsney Road in the Durban Central area,” he said.

He said the suspect was immediately arrested with the assistance of the SAPS Provincial Task Team.

“The suspect along with the stolen vehicle, which had been almost entirely stripped by that time, was taken to the Point Police station for further processing and investigation,”said Powell.

A few hours later, Powell said, at approximately 9pm, the security company’s Special Operations Team was activated again to assist Tracker SA with a VW Polo that had been hijacked in the Newlands area.

“After a lengthy search the vehicle was eventually located and found abandoned by members of our Special Operations Team, Tracker SA ground team and the SAPS in an informal settlement in A Section, KwaMashu,” he said.

Powell noted that SAPS were on scene and will be investigating further.
