DURBAN - POLICE operations to crack down on drug trafficking yielded positive results after two alleged drug dealers transporting drugs with an estimated street value of over R130 000 in an e-hailing vehicle were arrested yesterday.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the two suspects were arrested by the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit yesterday at 7:30pm.

Mbele said that while police were conducting a sting operation in the Durban Central area last night, they received intelligence regarding drugs that were being transported.

“While in Gresham place in the North Beach area an E-hailing vehicle with two occupants was intercepted and searched, 4 300 blue and white capsules of heroin, 4 000 empty capsules, seven large plastic packets of pure heroin weighing 100 grams each and 20 ’boss’ mandrax tablets were seized from the suspects,” she said.

Mbele said the recovered drugs have an estimated street value of R131 000.

She said the suspects aged between 27 and 33 were arrested on the scene and charged for possession of drugs and dealing in drugs.

“The alleged drug dealers are set to appear today in the Durban Magistrate’s Court for possession of drugs and dealing in drugs,” said Mbele.

The two suspects would also be profiled to establish if they are linked to other cases reported in the eThekwini District, she said.

Their vehicle was seized and taken to the pound for further investigation, she added.
