Durban - A man was electrocuted and sustained burns to his upper body after he came into contact with a live electrical wire in Salt Rock on the KwaZulu-Natal Dolphin Coast on Tuesday.

Paul Herbst from Medi Response said paramedics responded to reports of an electrocution around midday today.

Herbst said upon arrival, paramedics established that an adult male had come into contact with a live electrical installation, and had been electrocuted.

“The man sustained moderate burns to his upper body and required advanced life support intervention before being transported to hospital,” he said.

Earlier this year IOL reported that a municipal worker died after he was electrocuted.

Paramedics reported that the man believed to be about 38 years old was cutting the grass on the side of the roadway when he accidentally struck an electrical wire.

Meanwhile last year, The Mercury’s sister publication The Post reported that a Phoenix father died after he was electrocuted while fixing a light fitting in his home.

The father of six, who drove buses, was standing on a ladder trying to connect electrical wire on a light fitting when he got electrocuted and fell. He died at a clinic minutes later.
