DURBAN - A gardener working on a farm in Camperdown was allegedly involved in a robbery that was carried out on the farm, along with two other suspects who were arrested last week.
During the robbery, an 80-year-old farm owner and his employee were tied up at gunpoint while the farm was being robbed. After the suspects left, they managed to untie themselves and called a neighbour who immediately responded and also alerted the Camperdown police.
According to police, the stolen items included a laptop, binoculars, rechargeable light, headphones, golf bag and home theatre system.
The Mercury reported last week that two suspects were arrested for the robbery close to the Camperdown farm on Wednesday.
Both the SAPS and Magma Security & Investigations were involved in the arrests of the suspects, aged between 27 and 32, who police confirmed may be linked to a robbery in the Mpumalanga township near Hammarsdale in 2013.
Speaking to The Mercury today, provincial police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele, confirmed that a third suspect was arrested on Thursday.
Shaheen Suleiman, the owner of Magma Security, said during further investigations into the robbery, in collaboration with Camperdown SAPS, the third suspect was arrested.
“Magma Security & Investigations together with Camperdown SAPS detectives have arrested a third suspect, the gardener at the farm, who collaborated with the two suspects that carried out the attack,” said Suleiman.
Police said all three suspects will be appearing at the Camperdown Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
