DURBAN - Former Fees Must Fall activist Bonginkosi Khanyile, who is accused of being an instigator in the July unrest, says his life is in danger.

Khanyile, who is facing charges of incitement of public violence, is out on bail. One of his bail conditions is to report at the Durban Central police station on Monday and Friday between 6am- 6pm.

If he is in Gauteng the same applies but he has to report at the Hillbrow police station.

Khanyile said there had been two incidents where he was threatened by people while on his way to sign at the police station in Gauteng. He said he had to flee, along with his friends.

He claimed that the people insulted and threatened him, however he did not open a case because he did not know his attackers and did not take the number plate of their vehicle.

Khanyile said he goes back to court in December, he will make a request that the court change the days that he reports at the police station. He also wants the dates not to be made public.

“My life is in danger because my enemies know where and when to find me. I am not safe,” he said.

During his bail application earlier this year, the State showed footage from a video showing Khanyile talking to a crowd in Durban, encouraging people to continue with roadblocks and to fight until former president Jacob Zuma is released.
