DURBAN - After nearly two years of closure, the I Heart Market will return to Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

In a statement, eThekwini Municipality said the market would return to the stadium’s lawns after 20 months of closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Put on your flip-flops, Bermuda shorts and straw hats, as Durban weekends are about to get exciting. The countdown has begun for the official reopening of the ‘I Heart Market’ at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday,” the statement said.

The market has been based at the stadium for12 years and has been a platform for local creatives to showcase their crafts while providing economic opportunities for over 80 small businesses.

“Stadium officials worked closely with organisers to have the market return under strict Covid-19 protocols. The goal is for the initiative to feature permanently at the stadium,” said the city.

It said visitors to the market would find old favourites from home-made pastries, local cheeses and olives, locally designed and produced clothing, home furnishings, accessories, unique silver jewellery, and some exciting new additions, with loads of festive season inspiration and much more.

The trading dates are November 27 and December 4 and 11.

The market will return in the new year on January 8, 2022. Operating hours are from 8.30am to 2pm.

The city said entrance is free and Covid-19 protocols must be adhered to.
