DURBAN - A TEN-YEAR-OLD boy made the gruesome discovery of his aunt’s body, after she was killed in KwaMakhutha, south of Durban.

Phlisiwe Mvubu, 46, was found murdered in her home on Thursday.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala said a case of murder was being investigated by KwaMakhutha SAPS after a woman was stabbed to death by a known suspect.

The aunt of the victim, Fikile Hlophe, said Mvubu lived with her 10-year-old nephew who alerted neighbours about the incident.

The alleged suspect was a man who had been in a relationship with Mvubu, however they had been having problems, she said.

“We were told by the child she lives with that on the day of the incident, the suspect sent the child to go buy bread. When the child came back he saw the man driving off. The child told us when he approached the house it was locked and he saw traces of blood.

“He alerted the neighbours, but since all the doors were locked, they sent the child through the window to get inside. That’s when her body lying in a pool of blood was discovered,.”

Hlophe said the body had stab wounds all over and there was blood all over the house.

Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza called on the public to assist with information to track down the alleged perpetrator. “We should not rest while this man is still at large. His actions show he is a danger to society. He must be found and arrested. We hope the court will not grant him bail.”

Khoza said a team of social workers has been dispatched to provide psychosocial support to the Mvubu family “to ensure that the child gets counselling to deal with what he witnessed and be able to move on with his life”.

Mvubu’s death comes after Anele Bhengu was recently murdered in KwaMakhutha. Her body was found dumped, after she was allegedly raped and stabbed several times. The accused recently appeared in court.
