DURBAN – KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala is expected to make an urgent address to the province as riots continue in the province disrupting essential services.

Covid-19 vaccination sites in the province have also been affected by the unrest and looting. Both Clicks and Dischem said all its stores in the province were closed on Monday.

Clicks chief store operations officer Sedick Arendse, said Clicks is not currently trading in KZN.

“Multiple Clicks stores have been looted in KZN with protest spreading to other provinces. We are monitoring the situation,” he said.

Some of the Clicks and Dischem stores had been carrying out Covid-19 vaccinations. Dis-Chem said in an urgent notice that all its KZN stores would be closed temporarily due to the protest action, including vaccination and testing stations.

The eThekwini Municipality also said in a statement yesterday that its health-care facilities (clinics) and community vaccination sites are closed on Monday due to the ongoing civil unrest across the City.

The municipality said it has closed its clinics due to threats that have been directed at health facilities in the City.

The municipality said it would reassess the situation during the day and advise the public accordingly.

“For health emergencies, the public can contact the ambulance service on 10177 or visit hospitals near their area.”
