DURBAN - A 31-year-old man was arrested last week for the murder of his friend in 2019 while he was appearing in a Hluhluwe court for business robbery.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said it was alleged that on November 13, 2019 just after midnight, Cebo Mkhize, 30, was shot at the Dalton Men’s Hostel in Sydney Road, Durban.

Gwala said the victim was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

A case of murder was opened for investigation by Umbilo SAPS.

“The preliminary investigation conducted by police revealed that the deceased was fatally shot by his friend due to unknown reasons,” she said.

Gwala said Umbilo detectives received information about the suspect involved in the murder of Mkhize and the team worked tirelessly tracing the suspect and following all possible leads.

She said the investigation led detectives to Hluhluwe where the 31-year-old suspect was arrested with the assistance of the local detectives.

“He was arrested on Thursday, April 7 while he was appearing in court for a business robbery case that was committed in Hluhluwe during February 2022,” said Gwala.

According to Gwala, the suspect will be profiled to check if he is linked to other serious and violent cases reported in Durban and surrounding areas.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
