Durban – KwaZulu-Natal MEC for sport, arts and culture Amanda Bani-Mapena said the province was ready to host the World Football Summit Africa in Durban in November.

The MEC was speaking at the World Football Summit Europe on Wednesday in Seville, Spain.

Bani-Mapena said that she is truly grateful that South Africa is the first country from Africa chosen to host the World Football Summit.

“South Africa is a country of football fanatics and KwaZulu-Natal a province of super supporters, where some of the best players of the country are produced.”

Bani-Mapena added that KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube and the provincial government expressed their appreciation and gratitude for being selected to host the World Football Summit in November after the unforeseen interruptions caused by the pandemic.

“As a country we flatter ourselves (in believing we are) a worthy and a competent host of events of this magnitude and statue. Testament to this is our resounding successive hosting of mega-global events. We are perhaps the only country to host the rugby, cricket and football world cup in a short space of time. When the opportunity to host the World Football Summit presented itself a few years ago, we knew that here lies an opportunity not to be missed.

“As the government of KwaZulu-Natal we see this as an opportunity to advance positive socio-economic impact through sport. We regard the November 2022 World Football Summit as a platform which will create synergies and where partnerships will be built.”
