DURBAN - THE Department of Employment and Labour will launch a service centre in Newcastle that aims to connect job seekers with potential employment opportunities.

The centres are scheduled to be launched today.

“As part of his ongoing District Development Model activities, Minister of Employment and Labour, Thulas Nxesi, will on June 22, 2021, open an employment centre,” said the department in a statement.

Nxesi will be accompanied by the Mayor of Amajuba District Municipality, Dr Musa Ngubane and other senior officials of the department.

“The centre aims to connect work seekers to potential employment opportunities in Amajuba District Municipality, especially young people. It will also assist job seekers on strategies on job searching, finding a job and preparing for an interview,” said the statement,

The department will also launch buses that will assist UIF claimants. These buses are essentially mobile UIF offices that will help to reach clients in hard to reach areas, like rural areas.

It said the buses will be used for the provision of essential services of the department, especially in areas without labour centres.

“The movement of the buses will be controlled and monitored by the Fund. The buses will also be available for strategic outreach programmes such as Izimbizo and “Taking Services to the People”.

It said, while the minister will be launching a Public Employment Service Youth Centre and the Unemployment Insurance Fund’s mobile buses, he will also use the platform to assess progress made in the vaccination process around Amajuba District Municipality.
