DURBAN - The P7-2 (M70) known as Edendale Road toward KwaGezubuso in Pietermaritzburg has been closed due to recent storm damage that resulted in severe cracks that pose a risk to road users.
The KZN Department of Transport said the road would be reopened once all repairs were completed.
“Kindly be informed that P7-2 (M70) Edendale Road toward KwaGezubuso will be closed today until the section is repaired. Users will use deviations that the team is currently opening in the area,” said the department in a statement yesterday.
Msunduzi Municipality said the deputy mayor and chairperson of the Infrastructure Services Committee, Mxolisi Mkhize, visited Edendale Road yesterday to ensure a speedy response to the road damage following the recent hailstorm in the city.
The municipality said the department’s staff were already on site and preparations were being made for alternative routes to be used while repairs were conducted.
"We thank the department for responding swiftly on this matter and we are urging road users to make use of alternative routes and to exercise patience as the safety of motorists and pedestrians remains the priority,“ Mkhize said.
Mkhize urged all those who use Selby Msimang Road towards KwaGezubuso to use the alternative routes, adding that pedestrians should refrain from walking on this road until the repairs were completed.
