DURBAN - Exhausted after allegedly breaking into a vehicle in Phoenix, a 35-year-old suspect was discovered fast asleep on the front passenger seat of a vehicle by the owner on Monday.
KZN VIP Protection Services said the security company was alerted to the incident after the vehicle owner noticed that his car had been broken into at his premises in Kranpalm Place in Palmview.
“The suspect was detained by KZN VIP and handed over to SAPS,” said the security company.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said the complainant alleged that he had locked his vehicle, which was parked at his premises on Sunday.
Gwala said that on Monday morning at 7am the vehicle owner went to his vehicle and noticed that the right rear window was broken.
“The complainant then found an unknown male asleep on the front passenger seat,” she said.
She said the suspect was handed over to the police and detained at Phoenix SAPS.
Gwala said the vehicle was inspected and nothing had been taken, but car-breaking implements were found in the vehicle.
“A 35-year-old man was arrested for attempted theft of motor vehicle and possession of car-breaking implements,” she said.
Police said the suspect appeared in the Verulam Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
