Durban -- A 24-YEAR-OLD man accused of murder from Zwelibomvu, Mariannhill, was granted R2000 bail by the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court’s on Wednesday.

It is alleged that the deceased man was last seen being assaulted by the accused Nkululeko Mabhida.

According to a police report, Njabulo Ndlovu was reported missing on May 20 this year and was found dead seven days later in the uMlazi River.

“The accused assaulted the deceased and dragged him towards Umlazi River,” the court heard.

It is not clear whether a weapon was used in the alleged assault or not.

The State said that the investigating officer was not opposed to bail as “the accused was not a flight risk and was arrested at his home and will not jeopardise the investigation”.

According to the Mabhida’s affidavit in support of his bail application, which was read out in court, he intends to plead not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Gwendolyn Robertson granted bail of R2000 and postponed the case to September 8.

In another murder that came before the court, Robertson also granted bail to a 50-year-old businessman Henry Khambule who allegedly shot dead a patron at his business establishment in KwaNyuswa on Sunday.

He received R2000 bail and is expected back in court on September 26.

His lawyer stated that the accused was not a flight risk and had his 10 children and business tying him to the country and province.
