Durban - A 50-year-old man was gunned down in the Waterfall area, inland of Durban, on Monday night.

Netcare 911’s Shawn Herbst said paramedics responded to reports of a shooting on the P259, at around 8.25pm.

“Paramedics arrived to a strong police presence and reports from the scene indicate that a male, believed to be approximately 50 years old had been shot twice in the head,” Herbst said.

He said the man was declared deceased on the scene.

The man’s wife was with him at the time of the shooting and was also injured.

She sustained a gunshot wound to her upper arm and was transported to a local hospital for further assessment and care.

Herbst said local authorities were on the scene and that they would be investigating.

5 killed in shootout with police

Earlier on Monday, police in the Upper Highway area chased a car with suspected house robbers, during which a shootout ensued, with the robbers crashing their vehicle on Field’s Hill. Five suspects were killed and one seriously wounded, although it was not clear whether their injuries were due to the car crash or gunshot wounds.
