A man was left critically injured on Sunday morning when he was hit by a train at the Umlaas Train Station in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said in a statement that paramedics arrived on the scene at 11.20am to find a man lying next to the train tracks.

“Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition.

The man was treated for his injuries and provided with several, advanced life support interventions.”

Meiring said that once treated, the man was transported to Edendale Provincial Hospital for urgent care.

“The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.”
