Durban - A man was killed in a shooting incident on the R102 Gopalall Hurbans Road in the vicinity of Walter Reid Road in oThangathi on Monday.
IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Dylan Meyrick said paramedics responded to the scene on Monday morning after receiving reports of a shooting.
Meyrick said when IPSS paramedics arrived on the scene they found that a man had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
“Unfortunately, due to the nature of his injuries, there was nothing paramedics could do for the man and he was declared deceased,” he said.
In a picture posted by IPSS of the scene, the windscreen of a red vehicle appears to have several bullet holes.
IPSS offered their condolences to the family and friends of the dead man.
Prem Balram, spokeperson of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), who were also in attendance, said the driver of a red Audi was killed in a suspected drive-by shooting on Gopalall Hurbans Road in the vicinity of Walter Reid Road.
Balram said members of Rusa were on patrol in the area just before 7.40am when they discovered the bullet-riddled vehicle.
“It was established that the driver of the vehicle was killed after the occupants of an unknown vehicle opened fire on him. The deceased is believed to be a taxi owner, however this could not be immediately confirmed,” said Balram.
Police have been approached for comment.
