Man shot dead after suspected attempted hijacking in Chatsworth

Police confirmed that a 44-year-old man was in his vehicle when he was shot by unknown gunmen travelling in a grey vehicle.

DURBAN - A 44-year-old man was shot dead in a suspected hijacking in Lenny Naidu Drive in Bayview, Chatsworth on Saturday.

Police confirmed that the man was in his vehicle when he was shot by unknown gunmen who were travelling in a grey vehicle.

Amawele Emergency Services said they were called to Lenny Naidu Drive in Bayview for an attempted hijacking.

“The Accident Response Unit arrived on scene within minutes to find an Indian male, 44-years-old, slumped over the driver’s seat, with a single gunshot wound to his head, entry and exit, and still breathing.”

Amawele Emergency Services added that advanced life support paramedics Life Response 247 were called while Amawele Emergency Services took the patient out of the car and stabilised him.

“The patient was transported to hospital in a critical condition. Sadly in the hospital trauma room, he was declared dead.”

Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said a case of murder was opened at Bayview police station for investigation.

“It is alleged that on June 25 at 08.20am a 44-year-old man was in his vehicle on Lenny Naidu Drive in Bayview when he was shot by three unknown people travelling in a grey vehicle. The victim lost control of his vehicle (and hit) a house.

“He sustained a gunshot wound on the forehead and was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on arrival.”
