Durban - A serious industrial accident resulted in a worker’s leg being partially amputated in Shakaskraal on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast on Thursday.
IPSS Medical Rescue responded to the incident.
IPSS spokesperson Dylan Meyrick said that when advanced life support paramedics arrived on the scene, they found that the worker had sustained a traumatic partial amputation of a leg.
“The patient was stabilised on scene by IPSS Medical advanced life support, and the decision was made to activate AMS to airlift the patient to a specialised hospital in Durban for further care,” he said.
Earlier this year, The Mercury’s sister publication, the Daily News, reported that a man was killed in a freak accident when the loading platform of a trailer fell on him in a workplace accident at Albert Falls, north of Pietermaritzburg.
Paramedics found the 50-year-old man in a critical condition. Despite lengthy resuscitation efforts by paramedics, the man died at the scene.
