Durban - A serious multi-vehicle collision on the N2 in Mandeni in northern KwaZulu-Natal left one person dead and seven people with injuries ranging from serious to minor on Saturday.
IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Dylan Meyrick said paramedics responded to the accident near bridge 18 on the N2 late on Saturday night.
The Mandeni Fire Department also attended the scene, he said.
Meyrick said when paramedics arrived, they found a chaotic scene, involving four light motor vehicles and eight patients.
He said there were injuries ranging from minor to serious with one patient entrapped. The patient was extricated from the vehicle.
“IPSS Medical Rescue advanced life support paramedics and other services helped to stabilise the patients on scene before transporting the patients to nearby facilities for further treatment.
“Sadly one person sustained fatal injuries and was declared (dead) on scene, our condolences go out to the family and friends,”said Meyrick.
Meanwhile, on Sunday morning, Medi Response reported that its members had responded to a house fire in Ballito.
“Medi Response was called for assistance. Neighbours managed to free the dogs that were on the property,” said Medi Response spokesperson Leon Fourie.
Fourie said according to reports at the scene, the residents of the property were away for the day.
He said KwaDukuza fire and rescue responded to the scene.
Fourie added that the fire started in the garage with a vehicle catching alight. He said the fire department extinguished the fire before it could spread to the rest of the house. "We don't know what caused [the fire] in the garage,” said Fourie
