DURBAN - An intelligence-driven operation yielded success for KZN police after a 25-year-old woman was arrested for being in possession of stolen goods and a firearm at a house in Embo near Hillcrest on Saturday.
Provincial police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said police followed up on intelligence about a house in Embo, Hillcrest, where stolen goods were kept at 7am on Saturday.
Ngcobo said when police arrived at the address in question, they found a 25-year-old female who allowed them to search the house.
“Upon searching the house, a rifle and 59 rounds of ammunition were recovered as well as other stolen property,” she said.
She said the woman informed police that the items belonged to her boyfriend who was not in the house during the arrest.
Ngcobo said a vehicle was also seized at the premises.
“The preliminary investigation conducted by police revealed that the vehicle was hijacked in the Berea area during December 2021,” she said.
Police said the woman was placed under arrest for unlawful possession of a firearm, defeating the ends of justice and possession of goods suspected to be stolen.
The matter is being investigated by Hillcrest police and the suspect was expected to appear at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
