Private security recovers hijacked truck travelling from Johannesburg to Durban in Prospecton

Durban - Blue Security said that a truck which was hijacked en route from Johannesburg to Durban was recovered in Prospecton on Thursday morning.

Blue Security said that during the early hours of this morning their Tactical Team received information about a hijacked truck south of Durban.

“The truck, en route from Johannesburg to Durban loaded with retail fashion goods, was hijacked in Estcourt and later tracked to Ernest Clokie road in Prospecton. Together with Cartrack Durban, we were able to locate the vehicle,” it said.

The truck had been emptied of all its goods and was found abandoned on the roadside, Blue Security said .

Blue Security added that all staff were safe, and a case was opened with the Estcourt SAPS.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said police officers from the Estcourt SAPS responded to a distress call in the early hours of Thursday morning.

"They located an individual who alleged that he and a colleague had been hijacked while travelling in a truck. They were travelling south bound when the incident took place. The man was unable to provide any details about the vehicle," she said.

Gwala added that a vehicle was later found on Ernest Clokie Road in Prospecton Isipingo.

Police said case of theft of motor vehicle was opened at Isipingo SAPS.

In a separate incident, the company recovered a stolen vehicle in the Everton area last Thursday.

“The members noticed the suspicious vehicle, a double cab, which was flagged on our smart cameras in the Kloof and Everton area. They followed up on numerous leads and shortly after they managed to locate and intercept the vehicle in Everton,” it said, adding that the driver and vehicle were both taken to Hillcrest SAPS for further investigation.

In another separate incident they recovered a stolen vehicle in Morningside on August 6.

“While busy patrolling, our officer spotted the vehicle suspiciously parked. On closer inspection, he found that the vehicle was open with the keys still in the ignition. When running the registration details our Command Centre revealed the vehicle was wanted by police after a hijacking.The vehicle was handed over to Berea SAPS for further investigation,” it said.

Police have been approached for comment.
