DURBAN - The African National Congress (ANC) Party seems to be leading the pack in KwaZulu-Natal, having secured just over 226 000 votes. Although counting is still underway, the giant screen at the KZN results centre was the focus of attention, revealing the ruling party was sitting with at least 55% of votes so far.
Trailing behind the ANC was the Inkatha Freedom Party, obtaining 75 641 votes and the Democratic Alliance garnering, 48 999 votes. The Economic Freedom Fighters obtained just over 32 000 votes and the Black Land First sitting on 461 votes. The Minority Front earned 1222 votes so far.
There is still another full day of counting to expect and the figures are likely to change.
The mood at the results centre is jovial with local politicians popping in to chat to journalists and other politicians but all eagerly checking out the results screen.
The IEC is set to host a media briefing after midday with an update.
